We have been given our new Module content for 703 – Innovation for Industry
My understanding is that I need to research further into my subject area to identify
- Market
- Consumer
- Competitors
- Branding
I have been reading literature about creating design briefs and research methods to help me identity some further areas to consider and what methods will be good to undertake.
- Phillips, P (2nd ED) Creating the Perfect Design Brief
- Visualizing Research: A guide to the Research Process in Art and Design. Carole Gray & Julian Mallins
I have also started to consider which areas I would like to research further to help inform this module and module 704 Contextualizing your Practice.
I have been considering how I can construct information on the competitors in the form of case studies and have been researching further
THE FABRICANT & AUROBOROS
Considering the following
- What are they offering?
- How are they offering it?
- Which platforms are they on?
- What techniques do they use?
- Do they have communities?
- Who are they offering to?
- What themes do they employ?
- What are their ethics?
Some further areas/competitors to research are
- Danit Peleg
- Gary McQueen
- Alexander Knight
- Scarlett Yang
- Charli Cohen (Streetwear)
- Valentins Studio
- Selling sites
- The Dematerialised
- DressX
- Rarible
- KnownOrigins
- Open Sea
- Super Rare
- Digital Village
- People
- Daniella Loftus
- Kadine James
- Evelyn Mora
- Kelly Vero
I am also starting to think more about Module 704 and how I can incorporate my research into module 703. I am currently interested in our identities in digital environments and want to consider what digital clothing can offer us. With this in mind I believe that it is important to try to understand the theories of why we wear clothing, what clothing means to humans and the social and consumer effects that fashion has upon societies, whilst considering the impacts of digital fashion on the physical.
CLO3D
After working on the skin of the avatar I wanted to consider how I could apply a print in other ways, I consider using a close fitting body suit that would act as a base layer. I have used a print that I created in Rhino which I have further adapted in Illustrator.

I have also been discovering how to create and save new pose positions using the skeleton.

Looking at research areas

I have been researching on WGSN and saw an exhibition that is of interest, unfortunately there aren’t many images available online but I saw this wheel for selecting and mixing up the order and really like this as an idea to use for selecting variations. Something to keep in mind for the future!
