Module 702 – 10 min Presentation
It has been good to hear how the other Masters students have been getting on with their work and how I’ve been able to consider how the disciplines cross over in many ways, this encourages me in the consideration of potential collaborations. I have put together my presentation to express my background, knowledge and skills and have shown all the areas that I have been working on. The feedback I received has been positive with comments of my ambition being high and admirable; further comments included the use of putting my skills to use and expanding on them within the CLO3D software and how this is the essence of working at a Masters level. The Lecturers mentioned how they could see how my learning has increased and it was clear I had been knuckling down and how it was good that the work had been broken down in to objectives. As my interest with doing this Master lays with working in a more sustainable way a comment to reflect on the book by Beryl Graham Re-Thinking Curation to attempt to apply this new way of thinking within my work and offering which allows for more accessibility and openness.
CLO3D – Rhino
I have been working in CLO3D with the curve shapes that I created in RHINO. I wanted to see how I could incorporate theses within my designs. I decided it would be a good experiment to apply the shapes directly onto the avatars skin. I have been able to do this by adding the curve shapes to the avatar skin file within Adobe Illustrator. I worked on variations to try to create some interesting designs. I have been really pleased with the outcomes but this has lead me to consider how this effect could become a physical, this made me wonder if this design has the potential of being 3D printed or whether it would be able to be printed onto pattern pieces.
To give the design a more interesting appeal I choose to incorporate the bubbles which I used previously in the Bubble dress, I used the material properties in CLO3D to alter the colours and the render properties of the spheres. I also altered the look of the avatar to be something I felt was more fitting with the styling.
Laser Cutting

After having a few failed cuts the previous week I have been keen to rectify the errors and have created a further 11 cut files, incorporating some of the techniques I have seen within my research. I have used a different laser cutter this week (Johnno) all the cuts turned out well but the fans on the cutter had a tendency to blow the edges of the fabric so I held them down with a piece of card placed at the edges of the material (something to try to remember if using this machine again)
When creating the files I have found it quicker to create an initial cut shape and then use it to create a brush which can then quickly create multiples of the shape, I have then been able to either use the created line and duplicate it or create further lines using the created brushes.
Rhino

I’ve been trying to consider how I can use the avatar to design on within RHINO. I was able to save the avatar as an OBJ that I could then open in Rhino. I have yet to realise how I can design onto the avatar.
Adobe Illustrator
I have started an online course for Adobe Illustrator to pick up some tips and tricks for using within my work. It seems apparent that I will need to work much more within this software in order to achieve patterns for prints and laser cutting and also for the creation of 2D images that have the potential of creating 3D objects with in Blender or Rhino. I already have learning of this software but there are areas where my learning could be much improved, and so far I am happy with the progress of learning.
